"May you find strength in these times of sorrow"

Early Friday morning, I received a call from The Courier-Journal about a horrible accident that happened on I-65. A tractor trailer slammed into a church van carrying 10 people heading to a wedding. The van carrying a Mennonite family from Marrowbone, KY along with two friends were killed along with the truck driver. The only two survivors were two young children that were strapped into their car seats. It was not the call I was expecting. I went to Marrowbone that day to get the community's reaction. It was sad to this faith based community mourn the loss of this prominent family, the Eshes. The Eshes belonged to a Mennonite church, Marrowbone Christian Brotherhood that had thousands of people pour into Marrowbone to offer support and mourn the loss. I had attended the church service on Sunday in Marrowbone. I was not allowed to take photos inside because a large Amish population who attended the service but the pastor and I grew closer after several conversations so he allowed me a couple of pictures during a fellowship lunch. The whole experience was eye opening to say the least. I had never met people like I had this past week in Marrowbone. No matter how tragic the loss was they felt they knew that their family and friends were walking with God which is the ultimate goal to this community. These are some selects from the days leading up to the funeral.
