March of Freedom via Trail of Death
Today, I returned to America from my short trip to Bosnia. It was a very interesting and meaningful trip. I went along with another photographer, Bryan Anselm, and a writer and we are doing a project over the 15th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. On July 8th, I participated along with thousands of Bosnians in a 110 km (68 mile) march from the small village of Nezuk in the mountainous terrain of East Bosnia to the site of the burial ceremony of 775 Bosniak men in Potocari. It was one of the most physically and mentally challenging treks that I have done in a long while. It was not only the march that was overwhelming, it was the stories of what these families went through to escape Serb (Vojska Republike Srpske)VRS soldiers. Thousands fled through the same forests we walked through for days without food or water and always had to watch their surroundings so to not be found by the Serb VRS forces. Here are some of my photos from the three day trek.
