Recent stuff.

I found this couple at Western Hills Motel in Bowling Green, Ky. Richard Ballard, 25, left, and his girlfriend, Kristy Allen, met over the phone a few years ago in Bowling Green. The two have been living out of the motel for a few months and plan to leave for Huntington, Pa., within the next couple of days and Ballard plans to enlist in the military when they arrive.

Sander's Radiators

Here are a few pictures from Sander's Radiator and Battery Repair shop. Steve Sanders owns and operates the shop along with his son, Dusty, his son-in-law Bo, and his cousin Kenny. These guys were great to me and I had a good time with their political conversations and other talks. Cheers everyone.

Mountain Workshop 2008

This past week I participated in a great workshop called Mountain Workshop. WKU puts on the workshop and its purpose is to document the culture that surrounds the small towns of Kentucky. The workshop teaches photojournalism, multimedia, and picture editing. The people that participate in the workshop are guided by the professionals of today. My group's coach was this past years Photographer of The Year, Stephen Katz. He was a great teacher. It felt really good to have so many people who were so passionate about their craft around you at all times.

The way it works is that you draw a story out of a hat and that is your story for the week. I had the privilege to have Lisa West. She owns and runs a daycare in Mayfield. Her and her three daughters, Maranda, Marisa, and Marley also help her and Maranda and Marisa's children also attend the daycare. Lisa is a very busy woman. She helps out at her church as a food bank helper and a bible study teacher. She considers her life a blessing with having her children all so close to her. She calls her home a, "Nest," because all three of her children live within sight. Marley lives with mother and father and Maranda and Marisa live in separate trailers in the backyard. I felt great being able to spend time with these people. Comments are always welcome and appreciated. Cheers!

Recent Work

I would like to start off by saying that I am sorry for being extremely behind on my posts. This semester has been as stressful as it is fun. I love it. In my practicum class, my assignments pretty much call for all pictures all the time. As you will see in this post, I have shot a variety of situations, from cowboys to marching band. I really enjoy capturing the moments that myself and my classmates do. It's a great feeling when you have connected with this many different types of people in around two months. Feel free to leave me comments, all sorts of criticism is appreciated. Cheers!

I put the picture above in because this is probably my favorite, "Hey! Take our picture!," moment that I have experienced. These guys were great.

Opening Day at the Fair

I covered the opening day of the Kentucky State Fair today for the Courier Journal. It was a fun but tiring day. I spent a lot of time walking around trying to get something cool. There was a lot of stuff to shoot like Miss Kentucky State Fair which was cool. The Midway was cool and I tried something that I am glad I did but was scared at the time. I brought my camera on the ride and felt alright at first but then it started to really pick up. I have never held my camera so tight in my life. I am still toying around with other images but I dig this one below. Comments are always welcome and appreciated. Cheers!
