Mountain Workshop 2008

This past week I participated in a great workshop called Mountain Workshop. WKU puts on the workshop and its purpose is to document the culture that surrounds the small towns of Kentucky. The workshop teaches photojournalism, multimedia, and picture editing. The people that participate in the workshop are guided by the professionals of today. My group's coach was this past years Photographer of The Year, Stephen Katz. He was a great teacher. It felt really good to have so many people who were so passionate about their craft around you at all times.

The way it works is that you draw a story out of a hat and that is your story for the week. I had the privilege to have Lisa West. She owns and runs a daycare in Mayfield. Her and her three daughters, Maranda, Marisa, and Marley also help her and Maranda and Marisa's children also attend the daycare. Lisa is a very busy woman. She helps out at her church as a food bank helper and a bible study teacher. She considers her life a blessing with having her children all so close to her. She calls her home a, "Nest," because all three of her children live within sight. Marley lives with mother and father and Maranda and Marisa live in separate trailers in the backyard. I felt great being able to spend time with these people. Comments are always welcome and appreciated. Cheers!

I love the one of her in bed with the two girls and you can still see the Jesus frame in the hall way. Great light in the room. It is as if I were there.
