Summer's Day

This past Tuesday, I photographed a pretty tragic story. Two years ago, Cheryl Riemann was drunk and driving the wrong way on the Crosstown Expressway when she smashed head-on into Jennifer O'Boyle and her then 4-year-old daughter Summer Moll. Two years later, Summer still has very visible head wounds that doctors say will never be normal. There will always be visible scars, and she will have to undergo various surgeries in hopes of making her look normal. I was with Summer the morning of the sentencing of Cheryl Riemann. I've never met a little girl quite like Summer. She was very playful and sweet as can be. It was a tough trial to sit through because of the detail that both the prosecution and defense went into, especially that of how much the accident has affected each group's lives. Cheryl Riemann was given 15 years in prison along with five years of probation. In that time, Riemann has to carry around a photo of Summer and her mother at all times. To read the story by Alexandra Zayas and Colleen Jenkins, click the post title above or you can copy and paste this link- http://www.tampabay.com/news/courts/criminal/article1139987.ece

Below are some of my favorite photos from the day with Summer at her home and in court. Be careful out there.

lovely images scott... tough story for sure. ever since i saw that australian video on drunk driving (http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Z2mf8DtWWd8), i've put my seat belt on before I'm out of the driveway, and been a much more defensive driver. so sad...
