New York City

This past week, I had the honor in attending and competing in the 50th Annual Hearst Journalism Championship in New York City. I, along with five other talented photographers competed in a shootout throughout New York City. Along with photographers, there were radio, TV, and writing competitions going on throughout the week. It was a great experience and I don't know which I enjoyed better, photographing in such a visual and interesting city, or meeting some great new friends. At the end of the week was the awards dinner and after everything was all said and done, I was honored with the 1st place award in the Photojournalism Competition. I was speechless and have received some great words from my friends and family. If any of you all are reading this, I thank you so much. Here are the images that I made and turned in for the final round. Cheers, and have a great week!

We had two single assignments along with a story to do with the theme of, "Coasts of Manhattan."

1. New York At Night.

A young French couple kept each other dry from the rain on Wednesday, June 9th, as they waited for the bus in the East Village.

2. The High Line

The High Line Park is a former rail line in the West side of Manhattan. Instead of tearing down the rail line, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, along with the Friends of The High Line, decided to construct a park walkway lined with gardens. Now, people can be seen relaxing and exercising among green gardens and busy streets below.

For the story, I shot an essay over South Street Seaport.
The South Street Seaport at Pier 17 in Lower Manhattan was a thriving seaport from 1820 to about 1860. Since 1967, it has served as a museum and a thriving tourist attraction offering restaurants, coast tours, a mall, and renovated historic ships that serve as museums to the public.
