recent photos

These first two pictures are from a police benefit I shot for the Courier. A lot of families and it was pretty basic but there was a span of about 4 minutes where the sky was dark but the sun came in gave nice light, see second picture. The DJ there was from Radio Disney, way too excited and when I called the station today to get his name (bad journalist) they kept asking me if the pictures are appropriate. Weirded me out.

This photo below isn't my best but I just thought the sky is crazy with such nice sun hitting these folks. Live and learn I guess.

These next pictures are from my story. Natasha and Phoenix had their house warming party this past Saturday and these are a few I liked from the days. Natasha did most of the physical work because Phoenix sprained her ankle in the last roller derby bout. Natasha wasn't too happy about doing the yard work by herself. The party went very well though.

Story Work

Since Summer began I have been working on my final story from PJ about Natasha and Phoenix, the couple a part of the Derby City Roller Girls. These are some images from the past week. There are more on the way but this is mostly roller derby stuff. Phoenix was just elected co-captain of the team. The bout took place in Bloomington Ind. against The Bleeding Heartland Flatliners. The DCRG won and here are some of the ones I dug from practice and the bout. Please let me know your opinions and any advice. Cheers everybody!

Kentuckiana Pride Parade

On Friday, I was assigned to cover the Kentuckiana Pride Parade on Market Street in downtown Louisville. I have never covered a gay pride parade before and it is safe to say that it was rather interesting. It was the first time that I have gotten cat calls from men of all ages and sizes. Even though I was flattered, they knew I didn't swing that way. It was a fun thing to shoot and I hope you enjoy the images. Please leave comments on what you like and possibly what you would have done with some of these situations. I'll leave you with what Glinda The Good Witch (below) kept shouting..."Theres no place like homo!" Cheers.

A Couple from the Artsy Side.

I usually am pretty critical of art photography. I don't like out of focus pictures of pianos or stuff to that nature that is supposed to represent our struggle to understand. Pretty much bear shit if you ask me. But there are photos that come a long and grab us even though there isn't a moment or person making that picture happen. Here are two pictures of mine that I consider a little artsy-fartsy but I like at the same time. The first is of an old abandoned movie theatre in Louisville and the other is from the locker room at a DCRG roller derby bout. Let me know what you think. Cheers!
