Recent Class work

We have had some good assignments so far in Picture Stories. I'm learning from my mistakes and am already starting to see a change in the way I shoot. The following images are my selects from the different assignments.

PORTRAITS
The purpose of this assignment was to improve our networking skills and build a rapport with different people and generate possible stories. Lee Roy Underwood, 96, was a one-room school teacher in Glasgow, Ky. for nearly 40 years. He now lives in Village Manor Retirement Village where he acts as a night watchman. "I walk around the entire village to make sure everything is all in order, make sure nobody's breaking in," said Underwood.

Mark Roth, 50, has been building and riding motorcycles all his life. Roth has lead the life of a biker by joining gangs in Pensacola, Fla. and building motorcycles and naming them after old girlfriends. Now, he spends his time working on his motorcycle, Alexis, and can be heard riding down the streets surrounding Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky.

RELIGIOUS LEADER
This week we had Community/Religious leader story assignment. I decided to travel to Hartsville Tenn. to document someone who would be involved with helping people that were affected by the tornadoes that devastated Tenn. and other southern states. Elder Floyd Wayne Ferguson, 76, is the minister at Cedar Bluff Missionary Baptist church in Hartsville, Tenn. For the past two weeks Ferguson has been leading funerals and visiting parishioners to keep their faith strong.

“Please Lord, guide this poor lost girl to your light and comfort, come on young lady, look for him,” yelled Ferguson. Being “saved” is a common conversation piece at Cedar Bluff. Ferguson was asked help out Jennifer Ashworth, 27, by her mother, Cachita. Jennifer’s home was hurt by the tornados that came through Hartsville. “The process of being saved is long road but when it happens, you’re a new person,” said Ferguson.

Cedar Bluff’s congregation is not a large one. Nearly everyone knows each other through going to Cedar Bluff. “I have preached at 19 different churches and I can tell you with full sincerity, that the people at Cedar Bluff are the greatest in the world, and I think the Lord knew that when he watched over our church,” Ferguson said.

One Weeks Work

It has been awhile since I've "blogged" anything. I think now is the time to get it rockin' and rollin' so here is my "One Week's Work" assignment from my Picture Stories class, let me know what you think, enjoy.

General News Current and former Western Kentucky University soccer players came to protest the recent decision to cancel the school’s soccer program. St. John, Ind., sophomore, Andy Masteller, and St. Louis, MO sophomore (center) met through playing soccer and both are disappointed in the decision made by the school.

Pictorial
As the Lone Star Rodeo concluded at the Western Kentucky University Agriculture center, 8-year-old Chase Goble, Dalton, Ga., practiced roping calves next to the stables at the WKU Agriculture Center. “I’ve been a cowboy all my life,” Goble said.

Sports

Ohio Valley Wrestling fans were brought closest to the action when OVW Superstars, Colt Cabana, left, and Stu Stanley fell outside the ring and kept their tag-team match going.

Wild Card

Two cowboys rode their horses back to the stables at the end of the Lonestar Rodeo at the Western Kentucky University Agriculture Center in Bowling Green, Ky.
